Dr. Gerald T. Gowitt

Dr. Gowitt is the Chief Medical Examiner for DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office and the CEO of Forensic Medicine Associates, Inc. He also serves as a consulting Medical Examiner for the counties of Hall, Henry, White and Rockdale. Previously, he was the Deputy Chief Medical Examiner for Fulton County and a consultant for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation with respect to autopsy performance. In his 40 years as a Medical Examiner, Dr. Gowitt has performed approximately 14,000 autopsies, been involved in over 60,000 death investigations and been qualified as an expert witness in the field of forensic medicine over 750 times. Dr. Gowitt holds academic appointments at the Emory University School of Medicine, Morehouse School of Medicine, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Augusta University/Medical College of Georgia, Lincoln Memorial University of Osteopathic Medicine, and Wayne State University. Dr. Gowitt is certified by the American Board of Pathology in the disciplines of forensic, anatomic and clinical pathology.
