At Forensic Medicine Associates, Inc., we offer toxicology testing done through National Medical Services (NMS) labs.
This service is available at an additional cost and only in conjunction with a private autopsy.
A reliable postmortem analysis is not available for every drug or medication, especially poisons. Drug concentrations are not necessarily the same as those at the time of death, as drug levels may vary according to the sampling site and the interval between death and specimen collection.
We do not perform autopsies on criminal or suspected criminal cases. If you suspect that your loved one has been poisoned, contact your local medical examiner or coroner.
Toxicology testing is the process of analyzing blood, urine, tissue, or other samples to detect and measure drugs, alcohol, poisons, and other harmful substances. This testing is essential in both medical and forensic settings, as it can help doctors diagnose and treat overdoses, as well as determine whether substances played a role in a person’s death.
Please reach us at office@forensicmedicine.co if you cannot find an answer to your question.
No, toxicology testing, laboratory studies, and cultures are charged separately. These additional analyses can range from a few hundred to several thousand dollars, depending on what is requested or needed.
Unfortunately, we can only provide toxicology services in conjunction with an autopsy.
We do not accept cases where poisoning or foul play is suspected. If you are suspicious of foul play, contact your local coroner or medical examiner office
Toxicology results can take several weeks to be completed, depending on the workload of the laboratory and the complexity of the case.
