Juniper Fedor, MS, PA (ASCP)CM, D-ABMDI is a pathologists’ assistant at the DCMEO. Juniper realized his interest in forensics after meeting a death investigator from the local medical examiner’s office while working in a funeral home. Juniper quickly began the path to his career and was eventually hired as a medicolegal death investigator and autopsy technician at the University of Michigan Washtenaw County Medical Examiner’s Office. During this time, Juniper excelled at assisting with evisceration in the autopsy suite and became a certified death investigator. Wanting to further specialize, Juniper began to explore the career of forensic pathologists’ assistants. At the time, pathologists’ assistant in forensics were a new frontier, and less than 10 PAs worked in forensics nationally. After graduating from Wayne State University’s Pathologists’ Assistant Graduate Program in Detroit, Juniper came to the DCMEO because of the office’s commitment to progressive, multidisciplinary education and stellar forensic pathology.
Juniper has dedicated his early career to the advocacy of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field of forensic pathology, as well as in medicine and medical education. He was a recipient of the Susan P. Baker Public Health Impact Award at the 2023 NAME Annual Meeting for his presentation on Gender Identity in Death Investigation. Juniper continues to present and educate about gender diversity and other DEI issues in forensic pathology across the nation, to entities such as the Mayo Clinic, Ohio State Coroner’s Association, and Howard University MLDI-ICOP. When not advocating for his community, Juniper enjoys playing classical and bluegrass upright bass.
