Lauren Bucci, MBMS, is the Education Coordinator at the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office. She completed her undergraduate degree in Spanish in 2014 from the University of Georgia. After that time, she served as the Program Director for the Early Professional Enrichment Program at Piedmont Healthcare, a program still in existence today. There she gained 5 years of experience placing students in educationally enriching environments and providing guidance to pre-med, pre-PA, and nursing students needing hands-on, clinical experience. While pursuing a master's in medical sciences degree, Lauren also worked as a graduate teaching assistant at Georgia State University, teaching many organ systems to undergraduate students as a part of Anatomy & Physiology II lab. Before taking on the role of Education Coordinator, Lauren came across the field of forensics, and the wonderful team who works at the DCMEO, through a Forensic Science internship. In the summer of 2021, she gained invaluable experience at the DCMEO and learned about the process of evisceration and post-mortem examination procedures. She has assisted with several office initiatives over the last year in her role as Education Coordinator, including the institution of longitudinal and long-term research projects, grant program applications, and pursuing ACGME accreditation for the office. It is her professional objective to advocate for forensic pathology to passionate students, in order to address the workforce shortage that exists within the field. In her free time, she enjoys music, spending time with her family, tending to her houseplants and garden, and spoiling her two-year-old cat, Binx. She also has a leopard gecko! She loves animals, nature, and biology.
